Numbers
The above presentation shows how to read numbers up to 99999 in Hanyu.
1. Read from the largest place to the smallest place.
2. Read the place
value and then the place name except the digit place
where the place name is omitted.
3. If the place value equals to two, it
can either be read as "二" (èr) or "两" (liǎng) except the
digit place
and the ten's place where it can only be read as "二" (èr).
(e.g. 22,432)
4. For a place with zero value, do not read the place name but
only the value zero. Read zero
only once in the case of consecutive
zeros. (e.g. 90,867; 10,405; 90,067)
5. Do not read the zero if all its subsequent places equal to zero.
(e.g. 80,000 the zero after 8
will not be read)
